How is profit calculated?

Proceeds = shares·sell − commission; cost = shares·buy + commission; profit = proceeds − cost. Return % is profit ÷ cost. Example: 100 × ($58.20 − $45.50) = $1,270.

Should I include taxes?

You'll owe capital gains tax on realized profit — this shows pre-tax return, the number your broker reports. Run your bracket separately or adjust by discounting profit.

What about fractional shares or dividends?

This uses whole-share math; dividends and reinvestment are out of scope — add dividends received separately to your profit.
