What is my net worth?

Everything you own minus everything you owe. The one number that cuts through monthly paycheck noise — with a breakdown of where it sits.

Total assets
Total debts
Net worth
Debt-to-asset ratio
What exactly counts as net worth?Total assets (cash, investments, home equity, vehicles, valuables) minus total debts (mortgage, cards, loans). It's a snapshot of accumulation, not monthly cash flow — the two tell very different stories.
Should I count my home?Yes, as equity: current value minus remaining mortgage. It's real wealth, just illiquid. That's why the tool asks for equity rather than full home value — so a $600k house with a $590k mortgage doesn't look like $600k of wealth.
Why track it if I don't plan to sell anything?Because debt-to-asset ratio and the split between assets and liabilities show structural health — leverage, progress, and whether you're accumulating or treading water. Retirees and investors both live by this number.
Is there a 'good' ratio?Lower debt-to-asset is safer, but 'good' depends on stage of life. A young mortgage-holder legitimately has a high ratio; the trend matters most — check it yearly and watch the direction.
